Powell River U15 Kings open playoffs with pair of wins

Minor hockey team downs Sooke and Port Alberni on the road; hosts Tri-Port and Kerry Park this weekend

Powell River U15A Kings minor hockey club began postseason play last weekend, recording two road wins on Vancouver Island.

The team downed Sooke 7-1 on Saturday, February 11, then travelled to Port Alberni the next day and put in another strong offensive effort, skating to a 9-5 win.

Connal Miller scored a pair of goals in Sooke, while Chase Fontaine, Carter Stekman, Trentyn Takeda, Nathan Gruntman and Eugene Souch each found the back of the net once.

Paxton Schreiber recorded a hat-trick in Port Alberni for the Kings, who led 2-1 after the first period and 5-4 entering the third. Fontaine and Beau Jameson Gagne scored two goals each; Keaton Bryce and Takeda had one goal apiece.

U15A Kings host two playoff games at Powell River Recreation Complex this weekend. Tri-Port provides the opposition on Saturday, February 18 (1:15 pm), and Kerry Park visits the following afternoon (February 19) at 4 pm.
