Powell River U15 Kings [above] have one more game to play at the BC Hockey U15 Tier 3 championships in Quesnel. The Vancouver Island Amateur Hockey Association champions will meet Nelson Maple Leafs in the bronze medal game tonight.

Powell River U15 Kings fell just short in their quest for a BC Hockey Tier 3 provincial championship on Wednesday, March 20.

Nelson U15 Maple Leafs scored the game-winning goal late in the third period and added an empty-net insurance marker in the final minute to secure a 7-5 win and a spot in the gold medal game tonight versus New Westminster.

For the third time in four games at the tournament, Powell River forward Kooper Kozmeniuk recorded a hat-trick to lead his team on the scoreboard. Keaton Bryce and Jack Webber also scored for the Kings, who held leads of 2-0 and 3-1 in the first period. The teams were tied 4-4 after 40 minutes.

Nelson converted on a power play with 13:20 remaining in the game, but Powell River equalized three minutes later, when the Maple Leafs were shorthanded, to even the score at five goals apiece.

Lucas Gruntman set up three goals for the Kings. Ryan Marshman had two assists and Webber was credited with one helper.

Powell River will meet the host team from Quesnel in the bronze medal game tonight at 5 pm.
