Powell River Villa moved into an eighth place tie in Vancouver Island Soccer League (VISL) Division 1 standings with a home win on March 2.

Marcus Cramb (seventh minute), Caiman Duggan (26th minute) and Jerod Timothy (75th minute) provided the offense for Villa with one goal each in the victory over Westcastle International Academy.

The three points garnered at Timberlane Park increased Powell River’s total to 15, equal to Victoria Highlanders in a battle to avoid relegation at season’s end.

“It was great to give the supporters a convincing win in our last home game,” said Villa manager Chris McDonough. “We’re now level on points with Highlanders going into the final game of the season at Cowichan.”

The match against fifth-place Cowichan Axis is scheduled for 2 pm at Sherman Road Turf in Duncan on Sunday, March 17. Highlanders host seventh-place Comox Valley United one day earlier.
