Race becomes more appealing

Unique flower rock medals capture international attention

Expanding the range of participants is the goal of the third annual Run the Rock marathon and half-marathon this August on Texada Island.

“We’ve added an eight-kilometre event and are making the half-marathon more walker-friendly with an early start and awards for top walkers as well as runners,” said race director Rob McWilliam. “We’re expecting an increase in participants this year based on favourable comments from past runners and publicity generated by our flower rock marathon finishers’ medals being selected by iRun Magazine as one of the top-10 unique medals in Canada. Already we have runners from Brazil and Germany who have signed up.”

Run the Rock takes place Sunday, August 25, on Texada. Registration and further information is available online or by calling McWilliam at 604.486.0377. Registration costs are the same as last year, $40 for the marathon and half-marathon until August 13, then $60 until August 22, the last day for registration. The new eight-kilometre event will cost $15 for an individual or $20 for a family.
