2015 Coy Cup over for local club

Powell River Regals' hockey season came to an end Thursday night, March 26, at the hands of Fort St. John Flyers.

A 6-2 loss left the Regals with a 0-3 record after round-robin play. With the win, Flyers (2-1) earned a berth in Friday night's semifinal game against Fort Nelson Yetis.

Terrace River Kings (3-0) advanced directly to Saturday’s championship final with a 5-3 come-from-behind win over Fort Nelson (1-2) in Thursday’s other contest.

After a long bus ride home, Regals players will turn their attention toward next season, while club executive focuses on Saturday night’s exhibition game and fundraiser between Regal oldtimers players and Montreal Canadiens alumni. Game time is 7 pm at Hap Parker Arena.

Second loss puts team on brink

For the second game in as many days, Powell River Regals could not hold a lead.

After scoring three times and shutting out opposition Terrace River Kings during first period action Wednesday, March 25, the green and gold were outscored 7-1 over the final 40 minutes of the game. Fort St. John upended hosts Fort Nelson Yetis 7-2 in the late game Wednesday, leaving both teams with one win and one loss.

Regals were unable to hold a two-goal lead Tuesday, March 24 in their Coy Cup opener against Fort Nelson Yetis and fell 5-4 to the host club. The tournament’s first game, also Tuesday, was decided in overtime as Terrace edged Fort St. John Flyers 4-3.

Entering day three of the tournament with an 0-2 record, Regals must win tonight (Thursday, March 26) against the Flyers to extend their season and advance to Friday’s semifinal. The game will be broadcast on Fort St. John’s Moose FM. Fans can tune into live streaming at www.energeticcity.ca starting at 5 pm. Undefeated Terrace faces Fort Nelson at 8 pm.

The Coy Cup semifinal takes place at 8 pm Friday, March 27, with the final game set to start 24 hours later on Saturday, March 28.

Team drops opener in tight game

Powell River Regals were unable to hold a two-goal lead last night in their Coy Cup opener against Fort Nelson Yeti and fell 5-4 to the host club.

The tournament’s first game was decided in overtime as Terrace River Kings edged Fort St. John Flyers 4-3. All four teams return to action tonight (Wednesday) with Regals facing Terrace at 5 pm followed by Fort St. John and Fort Nelson at 8 pm.

Regals' final round-robin game versus Fort St. John on Thursday, March 26 will be broadcast on Fort St. John’s Moose FM. The Coy Cup semifinal takes place at 8 pm Friday, March 27 with the final game set to start 24 hours later on Saturday, March 28.
