Tim Hortons Pee Wee Rep Kings have advanced to the tier two Vancouver Island Hockey League final with a 6-4 win over Victoria Peninsula A on the weekend.

Powell River entered the game as the number one seed out of the north, after going undefeated in North Island round-robin play with wins over Campbell River A 7-2, Nanaimo B 8-3 and Oceanside A 4-3. Peninsula travelled to Powell River for the single game playoff after coming second in the south.

Powell River moved out to a 2-0 lead with goals from Keaton Mastrodonato and Fernando Menendez, but Peninsula answered back 10 seconds later to make it 2-1.

Ethan Schmunk scored before the first period ended to make it 3-1 Powell River.

In the second period, Powell River began to dominate play. Caleb Parkhouse scored and Menendez scored his second to give Powell River a 5-2 lead after two periods.

In the third period, Powell River found themselves in penalty trouble and gave up two powerplay goals. With the score 5-4, Mastrodonato scored his second of the game with 1:01 left on the clock to make the final 6-4.

Powell River will now play a best of two-out-of-three series with Juan de Fuca A. Both teams spent the season competing in tier one league play and then dropped down to tier two for provincial playdowns. They have played each other three times with Powell River winning each game 5-4, 7-4 and 4-3. Their first game will be Sunday, February 24 at Powell River Recreation Complex at 1:15 pm and then two games will take place in Victoria if needed. The winner will advance to provincial finals.
