Riptide players make waves

Vancouver Island’s Tier two soccer season kicked off at the beginning of the month with games across Vancouver Island.

Players from Campbell River, Comox and Powell River joined together to make up the teams playing for the Upper Island Soccer Association local franchise the Riptide. Riptide, along with its sister franchise the Storm based in Nanaimo, play in the Vancouver Premier League against Duncan-and Victoria-based teams.

Two former Riptide players also started their season this month playing in the the Pacific Western Athletic Association. PACWEST is the governing body for collegiate athletics in BC. Fullback Brooke-Lynn Bell, a graduate of Comox Valley United Soccer Club, is playing for University of Vancouver Island. Centre back Hannah Gray, a graduate of Powell River Soccer Association, will be playing in Vancouver for Langara College.

Their seasons started mid-August with training camps. Both are working hard to earn starting spots on their squads. They recently played each other in Nanaimo with Langara College pulling out a late 1-0 win.

Riptide plays weekly Saturdays and Sundays in Campbell River and Comox Valley. More information on the games can be found online.
