Running the rock steps up to the mark

Island invites everyone to second annual marathon

Texada Island will once again open its arms to welcome runners from all over on Sunday, August 26 for the second annual Run the Rock marathon and half marathon.

So far, the event has attracted participants from around BC, as well as a couple from Alberta and the US. Among the runners is Janet Green, who has already run 267 marathons. Last year’s marathon champion, Keith Wakelin of Comox Valley, will return to defend his title.

Registration is open until Thursday, August 23, and costs $60 per person. Because the course is only open for six hours, walkers are only allowed to enter the half marathon component of the event. All proceeds from the race will go toward Texada Arts, Culture and Tourism Society and Texada Island food bank.

For more information, or to sign up for the race, readers can visit Avid Fitness Center's website or contact race director Rob McWilliam at 604.486.0377 or [email protected].
