Whether or not Powell River Kings can earn a playoff spot will come down to their final game of the BC Hockey League (BCHL) season. Kings trail Cowichan Valley Capitals by one point for eighth place in Coastal Conference standings.

Both teams came out on the losing end of games on Saturday, March 19. Capitals lost at home, 4-3 to Nanaimo Clippers, while the Kings dropped their penultimate game of the 2021/2022 season by a 6-1 score in Chilliwack.

Mark D’Agostino scored the lone goal for the Kings, who were tied at one with the Chiefs after 20 minutes but gave up five second-period goals. There was no scoring in period three.

Chilliwack outshot Powell River 40-16. Attendance at Chilliwack Coliseum was 2,699.

Powell River completes a three-game road trip, and its regular season, in Surrey on Sunday, March 20, and needs a positive outcome to leapfrog Cowichan and claim the final postseason berth. Capitals can only watch and listen, having finished their portion of the schedule.
