Short team brings swift result

First loss in two years for United

Powell River United Over 35 Football Club travelled to Campbell River on Sunday, October 20, to play in its first game of the 2013/14 season and was looking to start things off with a win. Unfortunately, Campbell River had different plans. United started the trip behind the eight ball as due to scheduling changes it was only able to get 12 players. While travelling to the game, United received another blow. Due to a missed ferry and other commitments the team would be playing with no regular goalkeeper. United started the game flat, flustered with the short staff, but pressed on trying to get the opening goal. Campbell River opened the scoring after making a run down the wing and taking a shot on net which squeaked by the keeper. After that, United appeared more tense and had trouble keeping the play and keeping possession of the ball. Campbell River moved the ball well and had most of the possession, causing fits for the visiting team. After going down 3-0, United made a goalie change but to no avail as Campbell River put two more in the net ending the game with a 5-0 loss for United. The loss was United’s first league game loss in over two years and shook the team up. United’s next game is this weekend, starting at 12:30 pm on Sunday, October 27, against Courtenay at Timberlane Park.
