Powell River Skating Club has just finished a successful year. Not only have many skaters progressed higher into different programs, they had lots of fun doing so.
A highlight was when Santa Claus surprised the skaters with a visit, bringing treats and sitting down for photographs with the skaters and their families during Winter Wonderland.
The CanPowerSkate program in September was an overwhelming success as each class was filled to capacity.
Test skaters began their program in September last year, earlier than usual, but this appeared quite beneficial as they performed well in everything they skated for this season. They performed at the Barbara Rasmussen competition held in Courtenay in March. This competition was the first for many of the girls ranging from seven to 14 years of age. Emma Piniewski competed in Pre-Preliminary Women and received a sixth place finish. In their performance categories Kayden Piniewski, Lauren Mander and Ailisan Wrotny received silver, Emelia Shelton and Grace Wrotny received bronze.
Club skaters were involved in two test days this year. Emma, Desiree Young and Ailisan passed their Dutch Waltz, Canasta Tango and Baby Blues dances as well as preliminary skills. Kayden passed her Dutch Waltz and Canasta Tango dances. Shelton passed her Dutch Waltz and preliminary skills. Mander passed her Dutch Waltz and Kristy Rowbotham passed her senior silver skills.
The club’s annual general meeting and pizza party finished off the season. Registration dates for next year will be available soon.
