Powell River Kings’ attempt to sweep the first two road games in their best-of-seven BC Hockey League playoff series against Nanaimo Clippers fell just short on Saturday, March 3; Clippers bounced back with a 4-3 victory after suffering a 4-1 loss in game one.

Neal Samanski scored twice and added an assist for the Kings, who led 1-0 after the first period. Nanaimo scored at even strength and while on the power play in the second period to take a lead the home team would never relinquish.

The teams combined for four third-period goals, including Samanski’s second of the game and a last-minute goal from Ben Berard set up by Carter Turnbull and Samanski.

Kings goaltender Derek Krall turned aside 23 of 27 shots in the loss.

Game three of the first-round series is scheduled for 7 pm on Monday, March 5, when the series shifts to Hap Parker Arena.
