Westview Elementary School’s Westview B teammates [from left] Ranae Babcock, Naomi Krowitz, Tanner Burt, Yvan Samantilla, Griffin Leach, Adam Hopper and Jaxon Fontaine recently claimed this year’s Slam Dunk Cup, which signifies elementary school basketball supremacy throughout School District 47.
The tournament format featured a March Madness-type feel with 16 teams and 140 players competing in separate, eight-team “regional” divisions.
Two teams from each region progressed to the Final Four in Westview’s gymnasium, including Westview B, Edgehill Elementary School, defending champion Henderson Elementary School and the eventual runners-up from Powell River Christian School.
The final game went down to the wire and was decided on a last-minute foul shot.
