Spot in BC finals booked by Powell River U13 Kings

Minor hockey team will represent Vancouver Island region at provincials in West Vancouver

Kooper Kozmeniuk recorded a hat-trick and Lucas Gruntman scored a pair of goals to lead Powell River U13 Kings to a 7-3 playoff win over Alberni Valley Bulldogs at Powell River Recreation Complex on Saturday, March 4.

Gabriel Caldarone and Lucas Vizzutti also scored for the Powell River team, which led 2-0 after the first period and 6-2 after 40 minutes.

Gruntman also assisted on three goals for a five-point game. Cooper Lawry set up two goals for the home team; Reid Stekman, Carson Laing, Harper Berukoff and Kozmeniuk had one helper each.

Powell River received the banner as Vancouver Island Amateur Hockey Association Tier 3 champions after the game and will compete for a provincial title in West Vancouver later this month (March 19 to 23) against other regional champions.

Powell River Minor Hockey Association's U15 team is also off the the provincials after a win over North Island Eagles, also on March 4.
