Storm prevents weekend soccer

Villa postpones game against Nanaimo

Weather and the cancellation of BC Ferries’ service from Little River to Westview caused the postponement of a scheduled match between Powell River Villa and Nanaimo FC2 on Sunday.

Coach Jamie Zroback received a call the day of the game and agreed with Nanaimo that the prospects of sailing back and forth were deteriorating with the increasing winds.

Zroback noted the cancellation gave his team another week for a few players to get healthy, but he never likes to disappoint fans. “It’s always disappointing for us to cancel games,” he said, “because our fans and sponsors are so loyal.”

While the game will be made up at a future date he noted, “Our next two games are away and we won’t have another home game until December 2 against Gordon Head Blazers.”

Villa’s next game is on Saturday, November 10, against Saanich Fusion in Victoria.
