Connor Eddy completed a hat-trick 19 seconds into overtime to lead Victoria Grizzlies to a 6-5, come-from-behind win over Powell River Kings on Friday, January 14.

Powell River’s first lead of the game, courtesy of a shorthanded goal by captain Dylan Finlay, lasted only 10 seconds. Eddy set up the tying goal at 7:25 of the first period, then scored his first of the game at 12:36, three minutes after the visitors had taken a 2-1 lead.

Kings responded with four unanswered goals, including Caleb Parkhouse’s fifth of the BC Hockey League (BCHL) season two minutes before the first intermission to cut the lead to 3-2. Nic Porchetta tied the game at 3:12 of period two, then Karter McNarland capitalized on a power play three minutes later to give the home team its second one-goal lead of the game.

Porchetta and Casey Aman combined to assist on Aaron Neal’s fourth of the season early in the third period, but the 5-3 lead was not enough. Eddy added his second of the game for the Grizzlies, followed by Andrew Amousse tying the score at five with 6:19 remaining in regulation time.

Victoria outshot Powell River 40 to 28. Attendance at Hap Parker Arena was 575.

Kings host Surrey Eagles on Sunday, January 16. Game time is 4 pm. The two teams meet again at Hap Parker Arena on Monday, January 17. Game time is 7 pm.
