TRAVEL TEAM: Members of Powell River Villa soccer club boarded a bus earlier today for a trip to Vancouver to play one of two BC Soccer Provincial B Cup Championship semi-final matches.

Powell River Villa soccer club left Powell River in the afternoon on Saturday, May 5, en route to its semi-final match in the BC Soccer Keith Millar Provincial B Cup Championships.

Vancouver Island Soccer League Division 3A champions Villa play Vancouver Strikers, the lowest ranked team to make the playoffs in the tough Vancouver Metro Soccer League.

Michael McColl, a Lower Mainland soccer pundit, puts Villa as 2-1 underdogs. But there’s an old adage in sports; the underdog has the advantage.

Players were excited, pumped and exuding confidence as they boarded the bus bound for the big game, and coach Chris McDonough said the team that wears Villa colours is peaking at the right time.

Villa advanced to the semi-final with a 2-1 extra time win over Fraser Valley Blue Devils in the round of 16 and beat Fraser Valley Red Devils 4-0 in the quarter-finals.

Game time is set for 3:30 pm on Sunday, May 6, at Van Tech Turf, 1025 Slocan Street in Vancouver.
