Volleyball championship proves inspiring

River Aces Volleyball team, coached by Brendan Clark, returned having placed 11th overall in Tier II.

The championship was held in Abbotsford and play began early on day one with over 100 teams competing during the first weekend of BC championship volleyball. The boys completed pool play with a 1-2 record. Outstanding serving from Russell Pielle clinched the one win of the day for the Aces. Kills by Blake Nelson were thrilling to observe.

Day two was another early morning. The boys lost their first game of the playoffs but came back to win two more to finish the tournament.

Tough defence at the net by Brett Anderson and Ethan Nelles kept Aces in the run for victories. Digs, serves and passing by Steve Carson were key throughout the games. Passing by Cam Boyd and Quinn Elzer contributed to consistent ball possession throughout the day. Onyx Lutz, Blake Nelson and Cody Pigatto’s serving streaks during exciting matches helped secure Aces’ victories. Aggressive play at the net by Chris Fisher kept opponents worried.

While at the championship, the boys had the opportunity to watch the under-17 and under-18 boys’ and girls’ provincial championship play. The high level of volleyball action was inspirational for the Aces team.
