Province announces Powell River gaming grant recipients

Multiple organizations to share more than $300,000 in funding

Community Gaming Grants totalling $301,750 will be given to 14 Powell River arts, culture and sport not-for-profit organizations. The announcement was made Wednesday, November 7.

“Today’s funding announcement will go a long way in supporting the programming and visibility of local arts, culture, and sport organizations in Powell River,” said Powell River-Sunshine Coast MLA Nicholas Simons. “As a musician myself, I am always delighted to see investments in the arts. I hope this funding boost will help more people in our community get active and discover all that our city has to offer.”

Simons is an accomplished cellist.

Organizations receiving grants include: Powell River Minor Hockey Association ($55,000); Powell River Gymnastics Society ($38,000); Powell River Academy of Music ($30,000); Powell River Youth Soccer Association ($29,800); Powell River Historical Museum and Archives ($27,000); Pacific Region International Summer Music Academy ($25,000); Powell River Skating Club ($20,000); Townsite Heritage Society of Powell River ($20,000); Powell River Kings Hockey Club Society ($15,000); Friends of Film Society Powell River ($14,000); Powell River Aquatic Club ($12,100); Powell River Volleyball Club ($5,600); Powell River Yacht Club ($5,250); and Malaspina Art Society ($5,000).

More than 700 not-for-profit organizations around the province are receiving approximately $18 million to deliver performing arts, literature, heritage and cultural programs for residents of all ages.
