A community picnic recently hosted by two refugee families from Syria, marking the one-year anniversary of them living here, provided a chance for Powell River to reflect on the success of their resettlement.

The world would be much less safe if not for the introduction of vaccines, which have saved the lives of more babies and children than any other medical intervention in the last 50 years.

Everyone needs to belong to a club. For Braxton Leask and Dylan Buckle, that club was Powell River Villa.

Loud and proud I very seldom write down my thoughts, let alone post them on social media or write a letter to the editor, but I am so annoyed at the Peak and the last editorial [“Editorial: Colonization 150,” June 28].

There are difficult jobs, and then there is being a BC Conservation Officer Service officer.

I just returned from a vacation in the wonderful province of Newfoundland; a place of strong communities that reminded me a lot of Powell River.
