Everybody loves a party, even more than prior to COVID-19.
High profile events offering the opportunity to mix and mingle were always highlighted on calendars, but after two summers of cancellations, many qathet region residents recently had a taste of what was, what is and what can be.
PRISMA Festival returned with live performances last month after two years of streaming the festival experience to online viewers; it started a few days after the 2022 Powell River Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony drew a large crowd at Hap Parker Arena to recognize sporting greats from the community. Near the end of the month, a high school graduation parade, which has become an annual event (created due to COVID restrictions in 2020), and a traditional grad ceremony at Powell River Recreation Complex attracted hundreds more people.
Volunteers and organizers worked silently behind the scenes, prior to and during the events, to ensure things went smoothly and safely, while thousands of others enjoyed the entertainment, sights and presentations.
Kudos to everyone who donated their time to community events that, once the curtain falls, fade into the background for most attendees. Surely those behind the scenes are already thinking ahead to next year, because that’s what they do. Rather than a pat on the back, they’d probably prefer a few more hands on deck to help out.
What’s next?
Sunshine Music Festival and Blackberry Festival, which some consider the social event of the season, are on the docket this summer. Who wants to sign up to help?
