Kicking the Clutter: The life you want can begin today

Instead of wanting to fix everything that went wrong in your life, start moving forward by incorporating these small changes.

For so many years of my adult life, I had the same mantra: Someday I’m going to be more motivated, disciplined and committed to things I love.

I was constantly searching for a solution to my problem with no commitment to anything or anybody. I attended many presentations by famous public speakers, those with a quick solution and no hard work involved. I was trapped with wishful and instant gratification thinking.

After a while, I became angry with myself and made a decision that someday was today.

Most of us would be happy to make changes in our lives if we have a guarantee of success. Since that doesn’t exist, we are not prepared to deal with challenges that might appear. Making changes can be intimidating and a big undertaking, right? Possibly, but not necessarily true either.

Instead of wanting to fix everything that went wrong in your life, start moving forward by incorporating these small changes. You can implement them immediately and start changing your life today.

Here are four steps that helped me move forward to the purposeful life I have now.

Focus on positive thoughts

The world we live in can be negative, unstable and forever changing. This can bring fear and uncertainty to your life.

Also, our thoughts and actions are influenced by how we feel at any given time in the day. Even a change of weather can make us feel stressed and want to stay in a warm bed.

Many people waste their time and energy focusing on changing the world and its problems. In the meantime, their homes and families are being neglected and ignored. The first step to a successful and happy life is to focus on your home and who lives in it.

Leave nothing for tomorrow

Whatever you can finish today, do it. The reason for not leaving today’s chores for tomorrow is that you will have a double load of everything if you wait.

Estimate how long it takes you to do dishes/clean the kitchen after supper; more than likely it’s not longer than 15 minutes. What’s more, people who immediately clean up after themselves tend to be happier, more successful and in control.

Tackle the things you don’t like

I like this analogy by motivational speaker and author Brian Tracy: “Eat that frog first.” For example, do chores you don’t like first.

If you have unfinished projects, you are carrying a heavy weight around no matter how small each task is. Schedule a time to finish them or if they are not important, discard them.

Establish a routine

One trait many successful individuals have in common is self-discipline. They go to bed and wake up in the morning at the same time. No clock is ever needed for these early birds.

The routine that many people avoid, the successful crowd thrives on.

When you create a routine for yourself, start by being flexible about it. Prioritize and do the things first that can make a significant difference in your life. Remember, when you achieve success in one area of your life, every other area will be positively affected.

Make a change today for a better tomorrow.
