Letter: Take a breather on building new fire hall

There’s a limit to what our residents, the majority of whom are seniors, can afford, as our taxes, cost of fuel, heating (especially this winter) and food continue to rise. ~ Helen Evans

With the closing of the mill, our city’s ever growing debt and the continual increase in our taxes, it’s time for our council to postpone the building of a new fire hall, which would add even more to our debt [“City of Powell River seeking public input into new emergency services facility,” October 22].

There’s a limit to what our residents, the majority of whom are seniors, can afford, as our taxes, cost of fuel, heating (especially this winter) and food continue to rise.

Let’s take a breather and review our expenditures, which have risen with this council, before we embark on another capital expenditure.

Many of our seniors don’t drive at night, yet not one meeting concerning the proposed new fire hall was during the day, when so many of us would have attended.
