I understand that some routes have harsher conditions and that others have older ships, but it is beyond me that prices are six times higher than others. For example, Horseshoe Bay to Langdale is about one dollar per kilometre, yet the Denman Island to Hornby Island ferry costs over six dollars per kilometre. Is there some sort of sea monster there?
It is simply not right for an essential company like BC Ferries to have such contrasting prices. We live in a free and democratic society, and to see ferry prices get tossed around like a hot potato when people rely on these ferries for work or to see their family is unthinkable.
What is clear is that BC Ferries needs to create a standard cost per kilometre sailed on all ferry routes and be more transparent as to why certain sailings cost more than others. If this makes you just as frustrated as me, make sure to call BC Ferries customer service, 1.888.223.3779, to voice your opinion, and create change to ensure a fair BC Ferries for everyone.
