Dignity and respect Self-definition is important. We should all be able to define ourselves in whatever way we see fit, so if people want to describe themselves as having a diversability, all the power to them [“Diversability in action,” July 24].

Youth feature prominently in the news this week.

by Margaret Cooper This month people have started reporting that they have found grubs in their cherries. While we do not have an official identification yet, apparently the cherry fruit fly has arrived in Powell River.

Missing out Texada I continue to find it amazing that Powell River never acknowledges Texada Island in any way whatsoever [“Tourism group earns award,” July 17]. Powell River Tourism wins a trophy “recognizing its ability to work with others.

Inadequate Inadequate sums up the proposal to increase coal handling on Texada Island by 20-fold [Coal-handling plans inadequate,” July 17]. Inadequate notification to affected people—it’s only due to the Peak that I became aware of this plan.

2013 is a year for anniversaries. Sea Fair is celebrating its 50th birthday, Westview Flying Club is recognizing 60 years as an official group, and Powell River Scouts are looking back on a century of activity in the area.

by Peter Behr Third Crossing Society’s idea of a “highway” to Squamish sounds like a great idea. Powell River could certainly use some economic stimulus.
