Imagine sitting around a campfire and breathing in a toxic soup of pollutants that endanger your health. Apparently, some Powell River residents are doing just that, by burning tires. Not only are they endangering their own health, however.

Waste of energy I am sick and tired of hearing about a new luxury Powell River Public Library at Willingdon beach [“McNaughton stands alone,” February 27]. There are more important things that City of Powell River council should be worrying about.

Library dilemma I wish to applaud City of Powell River Councillor Chris McNaughton’s attempt to introduce a motion in council investigating other site options for a new library [“McNaughton stands alone,” February 27].

City of Powell River staff appear poised to rush through a draft liquid waste management plan (LWMP), the first phase of which calls for treating the city’s sewage at Catalyst Paper Corporation’s Powell River mill.

A proposal by BC Transit for a service review in Powell River is timely, as there is potential for greater reliance on transit services and other transportation options in the region.
