by Angela Mulgrew The use of money is the use of money. Money purchases things—goods and services. Money gives us independence and strengthens our sense of self worth and esteem, at least while we have it in sufficient quantities.

No to smart meters This week I received a notice from BC Hydro that it will be installing a smart meter—actually I think it is a dumb meter—on my property [“Smart meters,” January 21].

Powell Riverites had an opportunity last week to gather and collectively express their concerns with escalating fares and the services of BC Ferries, an opportunity not missed by many.

Driving tests unfair Premier, Gordon Campbell gave 850 hospital employees their notice on December 7 for a Christmas present. Since then he has delivered his lowest blow, getting 80-year-olds off the road [“Tests come closer,” July 27].

This year marks the 31st anniversary of the Terry Fox Run, an annual event held to commemorate his Marathon of Hope. Terry was only 18 years old when he was diagnosed with bone cancer and his right leg was amputated.
