Next week, Optomeyes Eye Care will open on Joyce Avenue, and Drs. Clark Bowden, Sydney Davidson and Melanie Hennenfent are looking forward to helping residents with their eye health and vision correction needs.

“Optomeyes Eye Care has been an independently owned and operated family eye care clinic in British Columbia for over 50 years,” says Dr. Bowden. “The business started in Squamish and then expanded to West Vancouver, and now we’re looking forward to practicing in Powell River.”

Drs. Bowden, Davidson and Hennenfent have been colleagues and friends for years, and the dedicated eye care team at Optomeyes includes both optometrists and certified optometric assistants.

“Jaimie Robinson was our Squamish office manager for 20 years,” says Dr. Davidson. “She is an indispensable part of our team and a dear friend. When she moved to Powell River, we were inspired to open a new practice to keep working with her. Jaimie and her daughter Emma will be our senior staff at the clinic, and we’re excited to work with them again.”

The doctors at Optomeyes provide complete eye health services, including eye exams, medical eye care, contact lens fittings, pediatric eye care, sports vision care and post-concussion care. They are committed to staying at the forefront of current knowledge and investing in the best disease detection technology.

“We’re passionate about preventative eye care, because it has a huge impact on our patients’ overall health, as well as their quality of life,” says Dr. Hennenfent. “When people trust us with their eyes, it is a privilege that we don’t take lightly.”

In addition to eye exams, the clinic will be able to help residents with medical eye care, including diagnosing and treating dry eyes, eye allergies and infections, computer vision syndrome, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and co-managing cataract and laser eye surgery.

“Our goal is to provide high quality, personalized eye care in a welcoming environment,” says Dr. Hennenfent. “We want everyone to feel cared for from the moment they enter the clinic to the moment they leave.”

Optomeyes has an optical boutique that offers eyeglass and sunglass frame collections to suit any style and aesthetic. They also have an on-site lab, which allows for many types of glasses to be made in-house. This can improve both turnaround time and quality control.

“We have a standard for excellence in lens technology and design,” says Dr. Bowden. “It’s also very important to offer a good range of products so our patients find glasses that work for them in style, function and affordability.”

Making glasses in-house also allows Optomeyes to provide additional services to those who purchase their glasses through the clinic.

“We have an extensive two-year warranty with unlimited maintenance services,” says Dr. Davidson. “If there is a problem, we’ll do whatever we can to make it right. We’re very appreciative when people choose us for their eyewear, and this is one of the things we do to show that appreciation.”

Drs. Bowden, Davidson and Hennenfent are excited to be a part of the Powell River health-care community.

“We have been warmly welcomed by the people we’ve met setting up the clinic, and also by the other eye care professionals in town,” says Dr. Davidson. “We’re looking forward to being part of such a tight-knit community.”
