Powell River Kings first exhibition game of the BC Hockey League season, scheduled for this afternoon in Duncan against Cowichan Valley Capitals, was cancelled due to new health order restrictions announced by provincial health officer Bonnie Henry on Saturday, November 7.

A rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in Fraser Health and Vancouver Coastal Health led to the increased regional restrictions, resulting in six other games between Lower Mainland teams also being cancelled over the next two weeks.

Henry issued a series of regional health orders and strong recommendations that will be in effect until November 21 as a result of what she called a "worrisome increase of people with serious [COVID-19] illness requiring hospitalization and intensive care."

“Travel for sports, into and out of this region, is suspended for this period of time,” said Henry.

Kings were scheduled to host the Capitals at Hap Parker Arena in Powell River on November 14.
