Powell River Kings drop overtime decision in Chilliwack

BC Hockey League club earns one point, moves to within a point of Alberni Valley in Island Division standings

Powell River Kings rallied from a two-goal deficit to take a 3-2 lead in Chilliwack on Thursday, November 28, but ultimately lost 4-3 to the Chiefs in overtime.

After the home team dominated the first period, outshooting Powell River 14-7 and scoring twice, Ethan Schmunk, Dawson McKay and Davis Pennington responded for the Kings in the second period as the visitors turned the tables and outshot Chilliwack 17-9.

Both goaltenders made nine saves in the third period, but Chilliwack scored the only goal, forcing the game into extra time.

Chiefs secured the win on their second shot of overtime at the 1:37 mark.

Powell River’s road trip continues tonight in West Kelowna and concludes with a game in Prince George against the defending BCHL champion Spruce Kings on Sunday, December 1.

Kings outshot Chiefs 35-34.

Michael Abgrall, Brett Roloson, Hunter McCoy and Jacob Badal earned assists for Powell River.

Attendance at Chilliwack Coliseum was 2,002.
