Powell River Kings

Victoria Grizzlies built a 3-0 lead at home through 40 minutes and hung on to defeat Powell River Kings 4-2 on Sunday, February 16.

Levi Glasman’s 20th goal of the season at the 13:39 mark of the third period put the Kings on track for a comeback, cutting the lead to 3-1, but the visitors would not come any closer.

The teams traded goals late in the period. After Victoria restored its three-goal lead, Devin Leduc, who assisted on Glasman’s goal earlier, picked up his second point of the game with his 18th goal of the season to round out the scoring.

Brett Roloson, Michael Abgrall and Davis Pennington also had assists in the game for Powell River.

Kings outshot the Grizzlies 39-23 overall, including by a 21-9 margin in the third period.

Attendance at the Q Centre was 1,577.

Despite being in last place in the BC Hockey League Island Division, the Grizzlies have been hot of late, posting an 8-2-1 record in their last 11 games to secure a hold on one of three wildcard positions for postseason play.

Cowichan Valley leads the division with 77 points, followed by Nanaimo (72), Powell River (60), Alberni Valley (54) and Victoria (49).

Powell River hosts Victoria for two games to close out the 2019/2020 regular season this weekend. Game times are 7 pm on Friday, February 21, and 5 pm on Saturday, February 22.
