Sports brief: Powell River gymnasts attend invitational meet

GYMNASTIC SKILLS: Hillary English, 18, [seen here on the balance beam] along with Trystinna Bailey, 17, and Katie Dohm, 18, recently represented Powell River Gymnastics and Cheer at the Surrey Invitational gymnastics meet.

The event, hosted by Surrey Gymnastic Society, saw about 750 athletes from BC and Alberta competing throughout the weekend.

This small contingent of athletes brought home either medals or placement ribbons for every event they competed in, totalling five medals and 10 placement ribbons.

Bailey won gold on the beam, silver on the vault, took fourth place on floor and fifth place on uneven bars, which earned her fourth place all around for her division of Junior Olympic Seven.

English won bronze on the beam, came fourth on bars and floor, and fifth on vault, earning her fourth place all around in her division of Junior Olympic Eight.

Dohm won silver on the floor, finished fourth on the bars and fifth on the vault and beam, earning her a bronze all-around medal for Junior Olympic 10.
