Warmer weather coming to qathet this weekend

Globally, February set a new heat record

The weekend forecast for the qathet region predicts that Saturday and Sunday could technically be considered beach days.

The region experienced slightly warmer weather in the afternoon today, Thursday, March 14, with a high of nine degrees Celsius. However, according to the Weatherhood app, Friday to Sunday will be the first iced-coffee weather weekend since the summer.

On Friday, the skies will be clear with a high of 14 degrees, with Saturday and Sunday seeing temperatures rise to a high of 17 degrees, and low of seven degrees in the evening. This morning was still very chilly at zero degrees and ranked number two in the Weatherhood top five coldest regions, with Whistler, BC, ranking coldest, at minus 3.2 degrees today.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada: "For many, this winter may have felt relatively mild, despite occasional periods of intense cold in certain regions. With meteorological winter now over, we can confirm that the mean temperature for December, January and February has consistently been above normal throughout Canada."

Environment Canada also indicated that the planet's average temperature for the month was 1.77 Celsius above the pre-industrial average.

Today, March 14, is celebrated as Pi Day because of one of the most widely known mathematical constants, 3.14. Also known as the symbol, π.

Meteorologists from Environment and  Climate Change Canada stated that: "Mathematics is at the heart of our weather forecast and meteorology uses a variety of mathematical equations to represent and simulate our ever-changing weather situations."

Scientists also measure the The Air Quality Health Index using math equations to calculate pollutants in the air and how they affect our health. Meteorologists also use mathematics to calculate the UV Index.
