In 1838, Britain’s Queen Victoria was crowned in Westminster Abbey.

In 1914, Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife Sophie were assassinated, which ultimately triggered World War I, one of the bloodiest wars of all time with more than 37 million deaths.

In 1919, along with many nations, Canada signed the Treaty of Versailles, ending a state of war with Germany.
