In 1981, hockey hall of famer Wayne Gretzky reached the 50-goal plateau faster than any player in National Hockey League history by notching five goals in a 7-5 home win for Edmonton Oilers over Philadelphia Flyers. It was his 39th game of the 1981/1982 season.
