Happy Friday!

Paul den Ouden submitted today’s featured photo of a Virginia creeper adding colour to the Townsite neighbourhood, which he took recently on Marine Avenue.

To submit a picture for Photo of the Day consideration, send the full size original via email to [email protected] with the subject line “Photo of the Day.” Remember to include where and when you took the picture, what it is and your name (we want to give you credit).

On this day:
In 1936, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) was established.

In 1956, the 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz was broadcast on television for the first time.

In 1978, after playing his first eight professional games with Indianapolis Racers of the World Hockey Association (WHA), and scoring six points, future hockey hall of famer Wayne Gretzky was sold to the Edmonton Oilers, who were also in the WHA at the time. He was later named rookie of the year after compiling 104 points in 72 games that season.

Today’s weather:
A mix of sun and cloud is in the forecast for Friday, November 3, as is a high of 13 degrees Celsius during the day, dropping to seven degrees in the evening, when rain is expected. For the full 12-hour and seven-day qathet region weather forecast, go to our weather page.

In case you missed it…
West Coast Wind is back and ready for another successful swim season after club members competed in a couple of meets.

Meanwhile…
The qathet region has its fair share of talented artists. But there are some folks living humbly among us who, to the greater outside world, would be considered famous. Eco-fashion and textile artist Wendy Van Riesen fits into that category.
