Kings partner with United Way

Annual Dream Auction and Golf Classic planning is underway

Planning for the 14th Annual Dream Auction and Golf Classic has begun.

The two-day Powell River Kings Junior A Hockey Club event is now partnered with Powell River and District United Way, continuing the tradition of raising money that remains in the local community.

“This year we are so excited for the Dream Auction and Golf Classic,” said Ashley Hull, local United Way president. “We hope that by partnering with the Kings we can comfortably and sustainably fund more local programs.”

“We are proud to say that all net proceeds from this event will be spent locally and benefit many organizations,” said Joe Mastrodonato, one of the event’s main organizers. “The success of the Dream Auction and Golf Classic is largely due to the generous support we receive from our local business community.”

Proceedings begin at Dwight Hall with a banquet catered by Laughing Oyster chef David Bowes and a silent and live auction, 6 pm Friday, August 14.

Prizes for the auction will be announced in weeks leading up to the event, said Mastrodonato.

The 18-hole golf tournament takes place the following day, Saturday, August 15, at Myrtle Point Golf Club, from 1 pm.

“Last year’s event generated over $60,000 in net proceeds with over 100 businesses participating,” said Mastrodonato. There are many types of sponsorship options open for businesses and individuals, as well as options for individuals to donate auction items like paintings or crafts.

The events are popular, he said, with as many as 300 people attending the dinner and auction last year.

The Dream Auction is an event with close ties to the community, helping raise $800,000 dollars over the years, in support of Kings hockey as well as Cystic Fibrosis Canada.

Registration forms are now available at Myrtle Point Golf Club and from committee members. Dinner tickets are $50 each, golf entries are $115 for members of the club, $125 for non-members.
