Pier festival offers more than beer

Musical talent has been booked and drinks ordered as organizers pull together Powell River’s second Beer on the Pier festival.

Musical talent has been booked and drinks ordered as organizers pull together Powell River’s second Beer on the Pier festival.

The two-evening event happening August 14 and 15 at the Wharf at Westview puts local craft brews and musicians centre stage.

Amy Sharp is hosting the event along with CoastFM personalities Zane Sampson and Kaden Webb.

Powell River’s younger musicians will be opening the evening entertainment, line-ups include many local fan favourites.  Mark Lindenthaler will start the show on Friday night for Silver Atlas with Jasper Snow Sassaman, Ben Wayne Kyle and Adam Robertson. Local rockers Paradise with Sam Sansalone, Renelle Wikene, Doug Rugg and Darren Cound will be featured later that night. Then on Saturday, Powell River’s Rachel Peckford will open up for Vancouver bands Parlour Panther and headliners, The Colorifics, whose complex sound has been described as bohemian cabaret with originally-spun tributes to 1930s’ and 40s’ jazz, 60s’ surf and Beatles pop era. “Music perfect for a sunset on the pier,” Sharp said.

She added that in addition to live music, DJs will also be spinning sets to keep the party going late both nights and there will be a great selection of craft and domestic beer, wine and other drinks on hand.

Tickets for Friday night are $10 and $15 for Saturday night and can be purchased at Rockit Music, Capone’s Cellar, 21 Degrees Heating and Ventilation and Townsite Brewing. Beer on the Pier is a registered non-profit society and supports the community through donations.
