It is almost time for the 52nd annual Sea Fair festival and the Sea Fair Society will be filling Willingdon Beach with vendors, music and events over the July 24 weekend.
“There are over 20 organizers behind the scenes putting Sea Fair together,” said Jenny Garden, Sea Fair president. “Much of this year is built on what we learned from last year.” This year, Sea Fair will feature a new fireworks show, as well as an expanded craft beer gardens and a dishwashing effort for food vendors.
Sea Fair is Powell River’s largest annual festival and includes three fun-filled days of events, entertainment and community spirit. Sea Fair will see many popular events back for another year including the parade, volleyball tournament, carnival rides, fishing derby and talent contest. New for 2015 is a sport-day style event called the Pow Town Games where teams can face off in a three-legged race, tug of war and more.
“Making sure that everything runs smoothly is due to the work of many volunteers and we are looking for some extra hands to help out,” said Eddie Romagnoli, Sea Fair vice-president. Currently, the Sea Fair Society is in need of volunteers for cashier positions, dish busking, parade traffic control and grounds supervision. Potential volunteers are invited to the Volunteer Social and Sign-up at 6:30 pm on Thursday, July 16, at the Tree Frog Bistro to learn more. “Everyone will get a chance to mingle and ask any questions,” added Romagnoli.
Volunteers receive a free T-shirt as well as Sea Fair vouchers to use as spending money with vendors at the event. “We really had a great time last year,” said Garden, “and now that Sea Fair is drawing closer, it is great to see the team coming together again for another year.” For more information about Sea Fair or to sign up for any events, readers can visit the festival's website.
