Another year has come and gone, and it’s hard to understand how the time goes by so quickly.

Powell River Chamber of Commerce has had another successful year. While continuing to work toward our mandate and mission statement, dedicated to supporting business, economic growth and diversification, we also are taking the time to reflect upon how we, as an organization for business, can better serve our members.

With this in mind, we plan on undertaking a strategic look into identifying our strengths and weaknesses in an effort to be more relevant to an ever-changing business environment.

We welcomed new members in the business community onto our board this year. With their enthusiasm, innovative ideas and strong passion for business, we are positioned well going into 2023.

According to BC Chamber of Commerce president and CEO Fiona Famulak, “there are tremendous opportunities before us for 2023 and beyond. We are witnessing the coming of age of the largest generation ever: the millennials. As a group, they represent the largest demographic in history. They are entrepreneurial and support local businesses, have strong values, crave community and love causes. Indeed, they are a perfect match with the chamber’s own values and initiatives.”

I wish to echo Fiona’s sentiments.

In closing, I wish all the members the very best for this holiday season, and a happy and prosperous new year.

I thank the board for all their hard work and the effort and time they give up from their own families and businesses to volunteer on the chamber board. In addition, special thanks go out to our manager Kim Miller and her assistant Sarah Thomson, who make our efforts run rather seamlessly.

All the best in 2023.
