The old incinerator site is being transformed into a resource-recovery centre, where buildings will be erected to deal with the region’s solid waste.

At its September meeting, qathet Regional District's finance committee recommend that the board authorize a direct award to Ocean Trailer Delta to procure an organics transfer trailer valued at $116,295 for the resource-recovery centre and transfer station project.

According to a staff report, the collection and transfer of organics, including food and yard waste, is a key component of the qRD’s project. The transfer station will include a bay for the collection of organic materials, including food scraps, soiled paper and yard and garden materials.

The materials will be collected on the tipping floor of the bay, inspected and then pushed into the organics transfer trailer, which will then be transported to the organics processing facility for unloading, according to the staff report.
