April 21; Joyce Avenue, 4000 block
Police received a report of theft of fuel from a motor vehicle. The owner’s truck had been parked overnight in the alley. Approximately $75 worth of gas was siphoned from the tank. There were no witnesses.

April 21; Ash Avenue, 5700 block
Police received a report from Catalyst Paper that a brass certification plate had been taken off the boiler at the mill sometime overnight. The plate had been bolted to the boiler and was not easy to remove. The plate has no value but it is stamped. Mill employees believe it may have been taken as a souvenir. Powell River RCMP would like to encourage residents to keep an eye out for suspicious activity in their neighbourhood and to phone police if any suspicious activity is observed.

April 23; Joyce Avenue, 4400 block
At approximately 2 am, police were conducting patrols and observed a male behind 7-Eleven in the process of using black spray paint to paint graffiti on the wall of the building. The 19-year-old male was arrested and charged for mischief.

April 25: Marine Avenue, 4500 block
At approximately 8:30 am, police received a report from an anonymous caller that a male and female were waving a firearm at Westview Centre Motel. Police attended and located two pellet guns and a machete inside one of the units. After an investigation, police determined there was no evidence the weapons had been used in a threatening manner. The weapons were seized to be destroyed for public safety. RCMP wants to remind the public that pellet guns can look like real guns and should be stored properly at all times, and that brandishing any weapon, including pellet guns and imitation weapons, is a serious criminal offence.

April 27; Powell River
At approximately 3:45 pm, police received a report of a Publishers Clearing House scam. The Facebook user received a message from a Facebook friend that she had won a large prize and that she needed to send an e-transfer in order to receive it. The Facebook user phoned Publishers Clearing House and her friend and determined Publishers Clearing House does not operate in Canada and that her friend had not sent her the message on Facebook.

Powell River RCMP has also received information about a Rogers Communications scam. Customers are receiving messages that they are entitled to a rebate because of a 16-hour wireless system outage last week and are being asked to click on a link. Rogers stated the company never sends credit notifications via text and anyone receiving such a message should not click on the link.

Powell River RCMP wants to remind everyone to keep personal and financial information safe at all times and not to give out any personal information over the phone to unsolicited callers.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact Powell River RCMP at 604.485.6255, or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1.800.222.TIPS (8477) or online at bccrimestoppers.com.
