Incidents and occurrences in the last week include a break and enter at a residence and an assault in front of the police station

Powell River RCMP reported the following for June 30 to July 6, 2021.

Total calls for service: 171
Thefts: 10
Assaults: 7
Impaired driving: 3

Break and enter: 5

July 6; Willow Avenue
At approximately 7:41 pm, Powell River RCMP received a report of a break and enter in progress to a shed. When confronted by the homeowner, the male suspect pulled out a pocket knife, made a swiping motion through the air and threatened to stab the homeowner. The suspect fled from the residence and was later located on Joyce Avenue by police and taken into custody. The 19-year-old from Powell River has been charged with assault with a weapon, break and enter, uttering threats, mischief, breach of probation and breach of a release order. He remains in custody.

July 3; Barnet Street
At approximately 7 pm, police observed two vehicles parked at the RCMP detachment and a small group of people standing outside the vehicles, yelling about a driving incident. Police observed two females walk toward each other and then one female pushed the other with two hands. The 30-year-old female who pushed the other was arrested for assault and later released to appear in Powell River Provincial Court on September 21.

July 1; Marine Avenue
At approximately 1:20 am an RCMP officer was on patrol and observed a vehicle speeding. The vehicle was stopped and while speaking to the 42-year-old male driver, police detected signs of impairment by alcohol. Police obtained breath samples using an approved screening device, which registered a fail. The driver was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days under provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act.
