Powell River RCMP reported the following for July 28 to August 3, 2021.

Total calls for service: 133
Thefts: 4
Assaults: 2
Impaired driving: 6
Mischief: 7
Break and enter: 2

August 1; Savary Island
At approximately 2:09 pm, Powell River RCMP received a report of kayakers who had dropped traps over an area where scuba divers were underwater off the west coast of Savary Island. Diving flags, which indicated the divers were underwater, were displayed at the time. No injuries were reported and the kayakers have not been identified.
Powell River RCMP would like to remind the public that there are two types of diver down flags: red with a white stripe running diagonally across it; and white and blue vertical striped. All boaters should be on the lookout for these flags, which could be in the water or affixed to the diving vessel, and all boating activity should occur as far away from the flags as reasonable, keeping a safe distance of at least 90 metres/300 feet.

July 28; Gillies Bay
At approximately 10:08 pm, Powell River RCMP received a report that a dog had been caught in a live trap in a forested area, southeast of Jacobsen Road in Gillies Bay. Police responded and determined the dog, which did not sustain any injuries, had been freed from a raccoon trap by the dog owner.
Conservation officers want to advise that the public is allowed to trap raccoons on their own property and caution dog owners about having their dogs off leash in forested areas at night.

July 27 to August 3; Highway 101, north
Between July 27 and August 3, Powell River RCMP received reports of five vehicles that had been damaged while parked in Lund at Highway 101 and Finn Bay Road. Each vehicle was spray painted with orange paint.
Powell River RCMP would like to remind the public that there are designated parking areas in and around Lund and that if any vehicle is found to be illegally parked, proper procedures for reporting must be followed. It is a criminal offence to vandalize or damage any vehicle.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact Powell River RCMP at 604.485.6255, or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1.800.222.TIPS (8477) or online at bccrimestoppers.com.
