Thefts: 8
Assaults: 4
Impaired driving: 1
Mischief: 4
Break and enter: 2

July 20; qathet region
Powell River RCMP started a missing person investigation of a local male. Powell River Search and Rescue conducted grid searches of the last location he was seen but nothing was found. Police conducted an extensive investigation in order to locate the male, who was found unharmed on July 24 in the Fraser Valley area.

July 22; qathet region
Powell River RCMP received a report of a phone call scam from a false insurance agency. Police are reminding the public to be suspicious of anyone asking for personal information, banking information and access to a computer. Police caution everyone about sending money, transferring money, or purchasing items (gift cards/Google Play cards) and sending PIN numbers.

July 26; Alberni Street, 7100 block
At approximately 4:01 pm, RCMP responded to a dog locked in a vehicle in the parking lot in front of Walmart. Members attended and located the vehicle, which was not running. No windows were open and the large, longhaired dog was in the back hatch area panting heavily and clearly in critical distress. Members broke the vehicle window to rescue the dog from imminent heat stroke. The dog was given water and transported to BC SPCA. The file is still under investigation.

July 27; Joyce Avenue, 4700 block
At approximately 4:02 pm, RCMP responded to another report of a dog left unattended in the parking lot of Canadian Tire. A member attended and found the dog was no longer in the vehicle and the owner was now at scene. The owner was warned that leaving a dog unattended could lead to a criminal investigation.
Police want to remind the public not to leave any children and/or pets in hot vehicles. Parked cars trap heat quickly, opening or lowering the windows does little or nothing to protect pets or children inside, and will lead to a possible criminal investigation. Residents are encouraged to call 911 immediately if they see occupants in a vehicle that may be in distress.

July 27; Selkirk Avenue, 3900 block
At approximately 12:45 am, RCMP responded to a report of around 15 teens at Westview Elementary School who were drinking and smashing glass. Members attended and located a group of teens who fled upon arrival. Patrols were made for the teens but each time they were located they again fled the area. There was no damage to the school, however, there were beer cans scattered around and a couple of broken bottles.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact Powell River RCMP at 604.485.6255, or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1.800.222.TIPS (8477) or online at bccrimestoppers.com.
