Powell River RCMP officers reported the following for May 10 to 16, 2023

Total calls for service: 131
Thefts: 8
Break and enter: 0
Impaired driving: 1
Assaults: 4
Mischief: 5
Mental health: 9

May 11; Sunshine Coast Trail
At approximately 7:46 pm, Powell River RCMP received a report of an injured hiker on the Sunshine Coast Trail. The hiker was with three friends and all were well equipped with gear and supplies, however, the hiker could not walk out due to an injury to her knee from a fall. Search and rescue was deployed the following morning and the hiker was transported to qathet General Hospital by helicopter.

Police remind everyone to carry adequate gear, supplies and communication devices during outdoor adventures, make sure to let someone know where you are going and the expected date of return, and make a plan in the case of an emergency.

May 16; Willingdon Beach
At approximately 9:21 pm, Powell River RCMP received a request from Powell River Coast Guard for assistance with a possible overturned vessel off of Willingdon Beach. A female caller allegedly witnessed a canoe capsize near the floating dock at the beach. The coast guard, along with the search and rescue helicopter and local police searched the area from the water, air and land until approximately 10 pm. No vessel or persons were located. Powell River Coast Guard will continue to investigate.
