Officers reported the following for May 31 to June 6, 2023

June 2; Willingdon Avenue, 4400 block
At approximately 4:19 pm, Powell River RCMP responded to a report of a theft from the café on the Salish Orca ferry travelling from Comox to Powell River. BC Ferries advised that a staff member suspected a theft had occurred and contacted their corporate security, who reviewed video surveillance and confirmed the theft. Through further investigation, the suspect was identified. The 76-year-old male was arrested for theft under $5,000 and released to appear in provincial court.

June 2; Haywire Bay
At approximately 10 am, Powell River RCMP received a report that a Catalyst Paper work truck had been abandoned on a trail near the Haywire Bay campground. The truck was recovered by City Motors. It was determined that the truck had been taken from the Catalyst Paper site.  

June 3; Joyce Avenue, 5000 block
At approximately 2:17 pm, Powell River RCMP responded to a report of a male flailing around in the back seat of a vehicle parked on the pole line just north of qathet General Hospital. Police attended and located a 58-year-old male in the driver seat with the vehicle running. During investigation, Police located an open jar in the vehicle which contained fentanyl and was readily accessible to the driver while operating the motor vehicle. A standardized field sobriety test was conducted during which the male performed poorly. A 24-hour driving prohibition was issued as well as a violation ticket under Section 81(1)(b) of the Cannabis Control and Licensing Act. The investigation is ongoing.
