Approval of allocating a further $150,000 from the northside recreation 2023 and 2024 budgets for the Lund Community Centre to fund budget shortfalls was announced at the June 30 qathet Regional District (qRD) board meeting.

qRD's finance committee made the recommendation to approve the allocation at its June 22 meeting.

Estimated cost for construction of such a facility is $6,021,197, with $4,186,000 coming from a federal grant, $589,814 from reserves, the $150,000 from the budget allocations and $1,095,383 from borrowing.

According to a staff report, the substantive changes in the budget are due to the rising cost of construction and building materials, as well as the addition of costs related to conducting a geotechnical survey, and purchasing furniture, fixtures and equipment when the project is complete.

Elector approval is required for the project.
