At approximately 8:15 am on February 7, Powell River RCMP received a report from a young adult male that he had sent intimate images to a girl he had met on Snapchat and she was now trying to extort money from him. Police officers have received three similar reports in the past month.

Police want to strongly advise against sending any form of payment or personal information to an extortionist, and instead to block the contact immediately and phone police at 604.485.6255.

Powell RCMP also wants to invite parents, caregivers and educators, as well as young adults, to watch a free presentation given by the White Hatter Team via YouTube that deals specifically with sextortion, and to discuss the topic with youth. The presentation can be found at youtu.be/UhzNh67luqI
