Vancouver Island University closes Powell River campus January 6 due to weather conditions

Snowfall leads to closures at several locations

Vancouver Island University (VIU) campuses, including Powell River Campus, are closed January 6 due to severe weather (snow).

Nanaimo campus, Cowichan campus and Trades Centre, Parksville Centre and G.R. Paine Horticultural Centre in Nanaimo are also closed for the day.

VIU will provide an update will be at 6 pm tonight regarding the status of Friday, January 7, according to a media release.

Campus closure days are regular workday/learning days unless the work/learning performed is on campus and cannot be performed remotely, according to VIU.

Anyone unable to continue to work or study remotely on a snow closure day due to other obligations is asked to contact their supervisor or instructor to discuss options.
